Rend[er] evokes the dichotomy of artificial ‘intelligence’ image generation; as it artificially renders content, it acts to rend human creativity and suppress independent thought. Let’s put down our phones, pick up our paintbrushes, and not let it think or create for us

This oil painting was inspired by my grandmother. She and I would pick wild blueberries in the forest when I was little, a memory that is meaningful to me to this day. I have been working on this painting for a few months, trying to capture that memory, and the connection I have to my grandma.

My most potent memories of my father are of him playing music. That's why when he asked me to capture how I saw him, those are the memories I brought to the canvas; him with his guitar bringing joy to a room full of guests.
Besides oil paint, I decided to experiment further with mixed medium, and incorporate clay into my painting. I sculpted the fingers in this painting with clay, then attached them to the canvas. Additionally, I used real string for the guitar strings, a medium I have used previously in more abstract paintings.
